Welcome to Spicerack Productions Inc.
Spicerack was founded to create, develop and produce multi-ethnic projects for teen, tween and family entertainment.
Writer/Producer/Director, Doreen Spicer is best known for Disney Channel’s critically acclaimed animated series, The Proud Family where she is credited as Developed by and Supervising Producer. The series was nominated for an Image Award in 2003. Also for the Disney Channel, Spicer developed and wrote the musically driven film, Jump In!, which broke records in television cable with 8.2 million viewers and Variety deemed the film “…the highest rated MOW ever.”
In 2010, Spicer created the international tween hit sitcom, The Wannabes Starring Savvy, an independently produced series that follows six teens who want to be pop-stars. Spicer served as Showrunner and Executive Producer and was instrumental in licensing the show around the world. Produced in Detroit, Michigan, the twenty-six episode series debuted in Australia on ABC 1 & 3 and became their number one kid show as well as on HBO Latin America. The show aired in over 100 countries including Starz Kids & Family US, HBO Asia, Super RTL Germany, Italy, Austria, NOGA Israel, Turkey, and The Netherlands.
Later, Spicer made her directorial debut with a musically driven short film, Playground Politix, featuring eight girls and eight boys battle dancing for space at a playground. The short is aimed at gender bullying and premiered at the esteemed LA Shorts Film Fest in 2014. Using the shorts popularity, Spicer created a movement to inspire youth through social media and a Youth Empowerment Tour where she travels to schools around the US to impart tools for success and encourages children to stand up for themselves and for others. Playground Politix became the official selection at several film festivals including Dances with Films Kidz, Sunscreen, The Maryland Kids Film Fest and most recently, Reel Women UK. A full-length screenplay is in the works. Also, Spicer’s first original junior novel, Love Double Dutch, will debut Fall 2018 on Random House Publishing. Currently, Spicer serves as writer on the Netflix animated series, Motown.
Spicer earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications at Morgan State University with a minor in English through the Warner Bros. Writing Program, which was implemented at the university. Spicer began her career as a production assistant on the popular ABC sitcom, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper. That same year, Spicer earned her first “Written by” credit on FOX’s, Martin and became a member of the prestigious Writers Guild of America, West. Spicer proceeded to hone her craft on shows as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Jamie Foxx Show, and The Cosbys.
Having established expertise in television, animation and film, Doreen Spicer continues to develop multi-cultural and inclusive projects under the auspices of Spicerack Productions Inc.
